Dandenong Show 2008
The weather man said the day was going to be
nice, not too hot. He lied again. The only thing I like
about daylight saving is the fact that sometimes the weather doesn’t get
hot until late in the day when
we are starting to think about packing up.
When we arrived we were pleased to see the
“Flyball Dog” display on the oval near our pavilion. I thought this
would attract more visitors to our, out of the way, pavilion. I was
wrong.
We shared with another rabbit group and the
cavy club. The first thing we had to do, though, was to
move “Puffing Billy” out of the way. The little train, used for kiddies’
rides, was parked right in the middle
of the pavilion. All hands to the wheel and we pushed it back out of the
way. John, the pavilion supervisor,
came and eventually worked out how to get the train going and off it
steamed (or rather fumed) out to
do its’ days work.
We set trestles in our area and with more
members arriving, unloading the trailer and setting up
began in earnest.
The competition was late starting. Debbie
had a record number of withdrawals necessitating the rewriting of
all her scoring sheets. Once underway it all went smoothly. With all the
scores collated, cards written
out and ribbons in place Debbie was going to present the junior awards.
Some of the juniors were off watching
horse events and it was decided to present the seniors first and wait
until all juniors were present and
accounted for. Frantic mobile calls were made and at the last minute the
juniors returned. Phew!! Things
could commence in the correct order.
We were very disappointed with the lack of
visitors to our pavilion. It meant we could sit around and gossip
but that is not the point of the exercise. I think the “credit crunch”
is going to affect these smaller shows
quite badly in the next few years.
On a good note we did sign up a new member
with Glenys explaining all the rules and regulations. A current
members “other half” has joined and a regular “non member” is now a
“member”. Welcome to you all.
We had a quiet but pleasant day so thanks to
all who came along.
