Registered Ratteries

The AusRFS maintains a register of ethical, responsible rat breeders who have passed the society’s comprehensive registration process. This process includes testing of rat knowledge, monitoring of rat keeping practices and
inspections of premises. For a list of the current registered ratteries click here.

Boarding Service

The AusRFS can arrange to care for rats when their owners go on holidays etc. Boarders are fostered by
experienced AusRFS members in their own homes. Owners are required to complete a Boarding Agreement and
a small fee is charged.

Rescue Service

The AusRFS operates a Rescue Service which takes in and rehomes abandoned and surrendered pet rats.
As well as the rats that come directly to the AusRFS, most animal shelters in Melbourne, including the RSPCA, also
pass on surrendered rats to us. To date the AusRFS Rescue Service has taken in approximately 5,000 rats.
Our Rescue Service is totally funded by donations and fundraising.
